Lymphatic Health

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is our body’s “garbage disposal”. It is responsible for the cleansing of our entire system and is crucial to our health. The lymphatic system is our body’s internal defense; it provides a home for the cells of our immune system. The lymphatic system rids the body of toxins, bacteria, cell debris, excess water and proteins.

The lymphatic system is similar to the circulatory system; it has just as many vessels throughout our body’s organs and tissue. However, this system only drains in one direction and does not have an active pump, such as the heart. Therefore the hollow structure relies on exercise, movement, manipulation and deep abdominal breathing to remove the polluted fluid from our bodies.  Lymphatic organs include the spleen, the thymus, tonsils, bone marrow and lymph nodes. The liver is also strongly involved in cleansing our system. Lymph nodes are bean-like filter stations.  Larger concentrations of lymph nodes are found in the neck, armpit, groin and intestinal areas.  These glands are responsible for breaking down bacteria and debris.

What is Lymphatic Congestion?

Environmental conditions, daily stress, sedentary lifestyle and improper nutrition are some of the many reasons we suffer from fatigue and disease. Stress, chemicals, & pain that we encounter on a daily basis from our environment and our food are taxing our system and creating toxic conditions within our bodies. Proper care and awareness of our lymphatic system is critical for optimal health.

  • Allergies (all presentations of) & Sinus Congestion
  • Toothaches and Sore Throats
  • Illnesses, Infections and Sickness – colds and flu
  • Compromised Immune System
  • Headaches – Toxicities, Tension, Insomnia
  • Poor circulation – Varicose Veins, Chronic Venous Insufficiency
  • Environmental and Medical Toxicity
  • Arthritis – Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis
  • Loss of Energy- Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Skin complications – acne, eczema, rosacea, etc…
  • Stomach, Digestion and GI (gastro-intestinal) disorders – constipation, diarrhea, IBS, etc..
  • Auto Immune conditions – Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, etc…
  • Swelling (edema) all-kinds ~Pregnancy, puffy eyes, post-injury, post-operative, etc…

Cleansing the System with Manual Lymphatic Drainage ~ “MLD”

All of the above conditions – lymphatic congestion, can be addressed with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), also known as Manual Lymphatic Cleansing.  MLD is a gentle, relaxing technique that assists the entire body in cleansing itself of toxic waste and bacteria.

  • Boost accident & injury recovery
  • Decrease swelling (edema)
  • Improve sickness recovery time
  • Increases energy
  • Promotes deep relaxation
  • Clear sinus & allergy congestion
  • ·   Improve quality and quantity of sleep
  • Optimize Immune System function and over-all health
  • Increase Range of Motion (ROM)
  • Promote healing of scar tissue, torn ligaments and sprains
  • Enhance Pre & Post surgical health
  • Improve Digestion & Skin Conditions
  • Improve circulation & varicose vein health
  • Promote healing of burns
  • Decrease pain & swelling during pregnancy

Lymphatic Health in Animals ~

The lymphatic system of dogs and many other mammals including cats, rabbits, cows and pigs are quite similar to that of humans. The design, purpose and location mirror our system.  The Lymphatic System is responsible for keeping interstitial tissue throughout the body free of toxins, cellular waste, bacteria, infections, etc… Often the immune system becomes compromised if the Lymphatic System is not cleaning and clearing itself properly.  Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), hands-on therapy, will help to optimize, improve and maintain your animal’s health!

An animal MLD treatment session is quite similar to a human being’s MLD treatment session.
